Biography

Wellington and Hellen are global missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene in Tanzania.

Wellington was born in the western part of Kenya. He accepted Christ in 1975 and felt the call to be a missisonary in 1988.  He has served as mission coordinator in Tanzania since 1996.  Being African missionaries assigned to Africa has been a big challenge yet fulfilling assignment for the Obottes.  Wellington and Hellen have been a major part of planting 260 viable churches, plus ten other Nazarene cell groups on the Zanzibar Islands, multiplying the district into 3 districts, starting ordination classes, and helping churches to have self ownership and sustenance.  He also focuses on spiritual formation of holy character, educating and developing pastors, ministers, laypeople in Tanzania.

Hellen accepted Christ when she was 16 years old.  In 1995 along with her husband she was called to be a missionary to Tanzania.   Her passion is working with women especially pastor’s wives.  Her ministry involves teaching them elementary reading and writing skills, and how to read the Bible.  She also teaches them to use their homemaking skills to help support their families.  Hellen also directs Jesus Film Ministry in Tanzania.

Wellington and Hellen have seen many souls come to Christ through their ministry, out of those many are now pastors serving God.  They are both very happy about the opportunity that God has blessed them with to serve and further his Kingdom in Tanzania.

Wellington and Hellen have three children:  Jimmy, a graduate of Olivet University, married and is preparing to pursue his master’s degree in computer science; Juliet aspires to be a doctor and Jerald is aspiring to be a pilot or mechanic.
